AQQA® is the next generation membrane plate filter for membrane bioreactor MBR, surface and process water.

AQQA® is based on the proven design of a plate filter with uniform gaps. AND: It can be backflushed. This enables the operator to prolongue maintenance intervals by minimizing biofouling and surface layers. The main effects are:

  • operation with low filtration pressures leading to “loose” surface layers.

  • high shearing forces on the membrane surface due to bubbles, that squeeze between the rigid plates (and can not evade like hollow fiber or flexible plates) .

  • regular backflush with cleaning chemicals while the filter remains in place. This keeps the fouling rate low and the filtration pressure low.

The unique design of the AQQA® Plate: The base plate and the membrane are connected together to form a solid Unit. The resulting sandwich Plate is extremely robust and Fully backflushable. The cleaning Liquid is simply pumped into the Filter.

This is what we call “true backflush capability”. Backflush carried out with 350 mbar (5 psi):

The AQQA® plates are bundled to cassettes. For inspection and maintenance simply pull the cassette out of the shelf like a book. Single Plates can be exchanged.

AQQA® cassettes can simply be slided out to the side

Updated design features:

Full backflush capability up to 0,35 bar:

  • less membrane area required due to higher output per m²: higher flux, less investment and smaller space requirements

  • easier Maintenance: the filters stay in the system as long as possible: longer intervalls before the filters are removed for a full cleaning cycle

  • automatic recovery clean with intermediate backflush intervalls including cleaning liquids. Reduced cost for maintenance

  • less downtime of the system

  • higher and flexible output, possibility to "overflux" the system

New, innovative Membrane:

  • increased membrane porosity per square inch results in higher flux rates

  • proven retention rate of >99,9999% for bacteria

  • highest hygienical security and water quality

  • membrane is delivered dry and can dry out

Rigid and straight plates with a constant gap:

  • no loss of filtration area, plates cannot touch and do not stick together

  • higher resistance to clogging with fibres, no manual cleaning when working within specs, less prefiltration requirements

  • very efficient mechanical cleaning with high shearing forces on the membrane surface lead to less maintenance and lower energy consumption

  • high packing density for a small foot-print and smaller membrane tanks

Modular cubical design of the filter frame:

  • easy integration into the tank and the system

  • very efficient aeration and and upstream channel design for less maintenance and lower energy consumption

  • extremely robust design

  • single filter plates can be exchanged
